FAQ

  • What are you certified in?
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Certified (EMDR Certified).
  • Do you only counsel married people?
No. I counsel clients who are single, married, living together, or not in any relationship.
  • What are your areas of specialty or focus?
My focus is helping teen boys, adults and families heal from social and emotional pressures, reestablishing trust, repairing self-esteem, improving the connection in their relationships, and finding a healthy balance in their demanding lives. I also help couples build a foundation of commitment, trust, compassion and inter- dependency.
  • Do you have actual life experience in the issues you treat?
Yes. I bring my “real self” to my work. I may share about my experiences if I believe they may be helpful to your healing.
  • How long does therapy take?
Depending on the issues you want to address, we’ll determine the number of sessions I think you might need. We will tailor the therapy to fit you.
  • How long are your therapy sessions?
Individual therapy for teens and adults are 50 minutes sessions. Couples therapy, family therapy, and group therapy are 80 minutes.
  • What is your fee per session?
Please call +1(512)632-9194 to learn about our fees and pricing!
  • What forms of payment do you accept? Can I pay you later?
I accept cash, check, major credit cards and Paypal. The fee is at the beginning of sessions. I also use this time to schedule your appointments.
  • Do you take insurance?
I don’t take insurance, and have several reasons why: I don’t want your therapy to be managed by an insurance company. Insurance will only pay claims that have a mental health diagnosis. I do not assign a diagnosis of mental illness when there isn’t one. Also, if there is a diagnosis, no matter how minor, once it is on a bill that has been submitted to an insurance company, it will remain on your medical record and can affect your ability to qualify for various insurance plans or be hired for a job.
  • Is there any way to lower the cost of therapy?
I offer a much lower fee than most therapists in the area, at $120 per individual, 50-minute session, and $220 for 80-minute couples and family sessions. I can provide you with a receipt that you can submit to your insurance (if you have a PPO) for possible reimbursement. (You will have to ask your insurance carrier about that.) Also, if you have a “cafeteria plan” benefit through your employer where you are reimbursed for doctor visits, you may also be reimbursed for your therapy visits. (You can ask your work’s benefits coordinator.)
  • What is the cost or therapy for cancer patients and their spouse or families?
Services are free of charge through the Flatwater Foundation and the Heart of Cancer. I am contracted to provide therapy for both. I’m passionate about helping families and individuals through the challenges of cancer, or other serious illnesses, and would like to help you and your family, too. For more information, feel free to call or email me. I’ll answer any questions you may have or set an appointment to get started.
